Derek Anderson – 4th Degree Black Belt, Judo Instructor

Derek Anderson is a 4th degree black belt in Judo with over 36 years of experience. He earned all four of his black belt ranks through the prestigious Tokai University Judo system in Tokyo, Japan, one of the most respected institutions in the world for Judo education and competition.

Derek has competed at the highest levels, participating in elite tournaments across Japan, Australia, New Zealand, New Caledonia, Tahiti, and Guam. In 1988, he proudly represented his home country of Guam at the Seoul Olympic Games, a testament to his skill, discipline, and dedication to the art of Judo.

In addition to his martial arts accomplishments, Derek has led a distinguished career in public service. He is currently a Texas State Trooper and has previously served as a GPD SWAT team member and a Private Security Detail (PSD) contractor in Iraq and Afghanistan, bringing a wealth of real-world tactical and situational experience to the mats.

Derek’s teaching blends traditional Judo principles with modern, practical applications—making him an invaluable asset to the Gracie Humaita Huntsville team.
